Mentorship Scheme
OUR MENTORSHIP SCHEME
Our mentorship scheme is a key part of At The Heart's mission.
We believe that young adults from black and other ethnic minority groups need mentors who can offer advice, challenge, motivate and encourage them to lead happy and successful lives.
Our mentors are expected to harness their skills and strengths to assist the mentee's development.
Mentors should aim to provide a supportive, non-judgmental relationship, supporting the mentees to raise their aspirations, develop their skills, explore their goals and work towards them.

Our mentorship scheme is a six-month programme where both mentors and mentees are invited to join a mentoring community that is supported by At The Heart to work on personal, professional and/or academic development.

Move Forward
After the six months, you can decide to end things there or continue the mentoring relationship for as long as it benefits both mentor and mentee.
-
How many sessions a month do I have to commit to?You are expected to commit at least one 1 hour session per month over the course of the six months, however mentors and mentees are encouraged to meet more often if they think it would be benefitical.
-
Do mentoring sessions have to be face to face?Mentoring sessions are not required to take place in person, but we encourage mentors and mentees to meet in person at least once before the end of the mentorship scheme for the benefit of the mentoring relationship. Please note that it may not be feasible for all mentors/mentees to meet in person, so it is important to let us know if you have a preference for face to face meetings when applying to the scheme.
-
Is it guaranteed that my mentor will work in the same industry or sector as me?We will try our best to match mentors and mentees in accordance to your mentoring needs - whether that be personal development, professional development or academic support. If you require a mentor from a particular industry or sector, we will try our best to find a suited mentor but will let you know if we are unable to offer this.
-
What support will I get as a mentor?Mentors will be invited to complete training and attend an induction session ahead of being matched to a mentee. Mentors will also have access to a handbook, resources and reviews with the mentorship team.
-
Do I need to be in a senior position before becoming a mentor? No not at all! We believe that everyone has something to bring to the table regardless of where they are in life. We provide mentors with training so that they can feel equipped before starting.
